Description

arche noVa - Initiative for People in Need is a non-religious, independent non-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) with Headquarters in Germany. We work in the field of humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and development and primarily focus on the WASH sector.

Globally, arche noVa currently works in twelve countries. Since 2013, we have been implementing projects for IDPs, returnees and host communities in Northern Iraq and Kurdistan (Diyala, Sulimaniyah and Kirkuk Governorate).

arche noVa provides WASH services in IDP camps in Sulaymaniyah, Kalar and Khanaqeen. Over and above that, we also provide WASH services and support outside of camps by rehabilitating WASH facilities in schools and health centers, as well as improving water and sewerage systems in villages. arche noVa is further expanding on these WASH support activities through a more sustainable long-term and holistic approach focused on community engagement, capacity building and livelihood diversification in the agricultural sector, yet always continuing to keep WASH at its core.

arche noVa co-leads the WASH Sub-cluster in Sulaymaniyah Governorate and the WASH Working Group in Northern Diyala Governorate.

Objectives of the position:

The duties assigned to the employee are as indicated in the following Job Description. However they can be amended at the discretion of management and in agreement of the employee. The employee may also be required to perform other functions, which are within his capacity, skills, aptitude and knowledge without additional remuneration.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Monitors program activities and ensures that all work conforms to required project standards;
  • Follows up with implementation process of all project activities to ensure activities are delivered on time and to quality expected and that project work plans are followed;
  • Monitors all WASH activities in and out of IDP camps for compliance with key WASH related quality standards such as SPHERE Handbook, WASH Cluster guidelines and other documents.
  • Develop and send high quality daily and weekly reports on field findings, as requested from supervisor;
  • Frequently visits field project sites and, acting as link between the Programme Coordinator and AN Programme field employees, actively participates in weekly and monthly meetings, reporting to supervisor orally and in written, in English, Arabic or Kurdish language;
  • Provides support to community engagement and communication with communities in project field sites, acting autonomously, with confidence and integrity, preserving AN reputation at all times and strictly abiding by AN Security Manual and other internal rules;
  • Preserves the confidentiality of work and does not pass sensitive information to anyone except his supervisor, without his/her prior authorization;
  • Actively supports the Programme Department with ongoing project administration, collecting, reviewing and storing project documentation;
  • Provides support to Programme Department in drafting and reviewing project and activity reports related to WASH programming;
  • As delegated by supervisor, initiates contact and follows up with AN support departments, in field and Country Office, thus adding to a collaborative and friendly working environment and a high quality project implementation
  • Make recommendations to improve field activities;
  • Under guidance from supervisor, if required, build close relationships and actively learn within affected communities, through home visits with beneficiaries, attending community social events, etc., working hand-in-hand with AN MEAL Dept.;
  • Based on need, supports Humanitarian Programme Coordinator with setting up meetings and appointments with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Upon request, perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description. Additionally, provide support to other departments when necessary.

  • مراقبة نشاطات البرنامج والتأكد على ان جميع العمل يتوافق مع معايير المشروع.
  • متابعة عملية التنفيذ لضمان اتباع الجدول الزمني المخطط له.
  • تطير وارسال تقارير يومية واسبوعية عالية الجودة عن النتائج الميدانية، بناء على بيانات موثوقة ودقيقة.
  • المشاركة بنشاط، حسب الحاجة، في الاجتماعات الأسبوعية والشهرية مع موظفي المشروع تحت اشراف المنسق الميداني.
  • القيام بزيارات لمواقع المشروع بشكل مستقل ورفع تقرير كما هو مطلوب.
  • الحفاظ على سرية العمل وعدم تمرير معلومات الى أي شخص ما عدا الموظف المشرف عليك.
  • جمع البيانات من تقني الامداد بالمياه والاصحاح والنهوض بالنظافة ومشغلي الابار ومشغلي محطات الضخ ورفع تقرير بها الى المنسق الميداني.
  • رفع تقارير يومية واسبوعية.
  • التنسيق مع جميع الموظفين وابداء النصائح والدعم عند الحاجة.
  • مراقبة جميع نشاطات الامداد بالمياه والاصحاح والنهوض بالنظافة داخل المخيم.
  • مراقبة عملية إدارة النفايات.
  • حضور الاجتماعات داخل المخيم عند الحاجة.
  • تسجيل جميع بيانات اختبارات المياه ونسبة حقن الكلور.
  • عند الطلب، أداء واجبات وهمام غير مذكورة في هذ الوصف الوظيفي، بالإضافة الى ذلك، تقديم الدعم للإقسام الأخرى عند الضرورة.

 

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • 1 year’s work experience in an office environment in Iraq (experience in international humanitarian NGOs will be a distinguished advantage);
  • At least basic understanding of the project cycle and logical framework model, hands-on experience in project-based reporting an advantage;
  • Direct work experience in Hygiene Promotion and/or other WASH programming, in- and out-of-camps, is highly preferred. 
  • Bachelor of science in Water, Sanitation, community development, Public health engineering, environmental science/engineering or Business Administration;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken in English, Arabic and Kurdish, with proactivity, tact, diplomacy and strong focus on results;
  • Proven skills in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) for daily office work;
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to difficult conditions in a competitive work environment;
  • Very good understanding of AN operating context in Northern Diyala
  • Ability and willingness to undertake frequent field visits to insecure and locations, while strictly complying with AN Security Protocols. 
  • At least basic understanding of humanitarian aid sector;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with very good ability to plan own workloads;
  • Basic conflict resolution and negotiations skills;
  • Interpersonal and cross-cultural sensitivity is required, with demonstrated ability to treat individuals with fairness and respect, with sensitivity for ethnic, cultural and gender differences;
  • Good analytical and writing/drafting skills, excellent attention to detail;
  • Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic is required, at least intermediate English language skills are required.
