Background

CESVI is an Italian NGO working for global solidarity. CESVI operates worldwide to support the most vulnerable populations in promoting human rights and achieving their ambitions, for sustainable development.

CESVI has been working in Iraq since 2018, focusing on the sectors of livelihoods, multi-purpose cash transfer, agriculture, and food security. More recently, CESVI has started a new program in the protection sector, in particular GBV.

The Social worker in Dohuk works under the supervision of the SGBV Specialist. S/He is responsible for assessing women and girls’ protection issues, developing and implementing case plans including full documentation and follow-up, psychosocial care, and referral

The Social worker will coordinate with the SGBV specialist and the mobile team in order to identify and refer cases.

S/He is carrying out related tasks foreseen under Project Result 1 in Dohuk Governorate.

Brief project profile

The project Strengthening community response and protection services for survivor women and girls in Duhok and Halabja Governorates promotes access to quality integrated protection services, at the same time strengthening the community network of civil society organizations engaged in gender-based violence response, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the resilience of vulnerable women and girls.

The target area of the above-mentioned project is the Duhok and Halabja Governorates, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

S/He:

• Identify, document, and manage cases for GBV survivors, providing timely and quality support to them and their families.
• Provide psychosocial support for GBV survivors: services and assistance aimed at addressing the harmful emotional, psychological, and social effects of gender-based violence.
• Improves and supports women and teenage girls’ group activities and psychosocial support appropriate to each age category.
• Participate in “Service Providers Mapping” activities in the area of Cesvi interventions.
• Prepare, organize and conduct focus group discussions (FGD) on relevant topics/information collection, when needed.
• Ensure the Do No Harm approach is applied in all activities conducted in work with GBV survivors and other Cesvi beneficiaries.
• Works with the specialized parties to improve, enforce, and supervise follow-up of referrals to facilitate beneficiaries’ access in a timely manner
• Follows the guidelines of GBV with regard to confidentiality, respect, and integrity.
• Provide MHPSS Awareness at the community level.
• Ensure a qualitative close follow-up of the beneficiaries in identifying the improvement done and the barriers faced by the individuals.
• Refer all the cases with psychosocial and mental health issues that you identified in the field to your line manager, to decide on a relevant therapeutic action plan following the appropriate strategy of the program (internal/external referral).
• Provide weekly case updates to supervisor/line manager, including new cases identified, a number of referrals, cases closed, and follow-ups.
• Provide weekly reports on activities including key achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and follow-up support needed from a supervisor.
• Ensure the principles of safety and confidentiality of beneficiaries’ data and data protection mechanism is in accordance with S/GBV SOP.
• Performs any other duty assigned as needed.

Objective 2: Implementation of Safeguarding policies –Adult at-risk/Child Safeguarding/PSEA

S/He:

• Ensures compliance with CESVI Safeguarding Policies and full implementation of safeguarding measures within his/her area of responsibility throughout the project's activities;

Requirements and skills:

• University bachelor’s degree or higher equivalent in Social Science, Social Work, and Psychology.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in S/GBV case management including providing PSS for survivors of GBV.
• A clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls.
• Fluent written and spoken Arabic, Kurdish and English Elementary proficiency is required.
• Prior experience working in NGO, with girls and women in emergency preferred.
• Belief in human rights including gender equality
• Computer literate (Excel, Word, Email).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, ethics, and respect for clients at all times.
• You fully adhere to international standards and code of conduct (girl, women) and conflict of interest policies.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and problem solver.
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Patient, culturally sensitive, flexible, and highly motivated to deliver quality assistance.
• Ability to manage a varied workload and prioritize tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills, with the ability to proactively problem solve and find solutions
