Action Against Hunger intervenes in four main areas: Nutrition, Mental Health & Care Practices; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Food Security and Livelihoods; Advocacy and Raising Awareness.

Action Against Hunger is looking for a One (1) Wash Technician in Basra.
Work place: Basra with frequent visits to ACF areas of interventions. 
Type of contract: Initially Three  (3) months Fixed-Term contract with the possibility of extension.
Working Hours: Full Time Contract of minimum 40 hours per week up to a maximum of 48 hours per week
Monthly Basic Salary:  Action Against Hunger provide competitive salary according to ACF salary grid.
Benefits: Monthly Transport Allowance , Medical Insurance and + End of Year Benefit.
Purpose of the position:

Implement emergency water and sanitation infrastructures rehabilitation and identify urgent needs in term of rehabilitation, repairing or improvement of water and sanitation infrastructures. 

Specific Objectives:

Objective 1: Prepare the worksites

The WASH Technician is responsible for:

  • Participate in evaluation/assessment missions.
  • Identifications of schools for rehabilitating WASH facilities together with DoE.
  • Identifications of required rehabilitation work together with DoE.
  • Prepare detailed bill of quantities for each rehabilitation work.
  • Organize and follow up the notification of site to contractor in cooperation with DoE.
  • Organize the work sites and ensure that it is well protected;
  • Prepare materials requests and check the quality of materials received;
  • Ensure the proper use of the tools required for each worksite.
  • Liaise with DoE and schools’ staff during all the project stages.
Objective 2: Supervise the work and participate to the implementation of activities

The WASH Technician is responsible for:

  • Ensure the quality of implementation according to (national and ACF) standards;
  • Ensure the proper usage of work monitoring templates during the implementations;
  • Monitor the contractors implementation of all construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities;
  • Ensure the advancement of the work according to the planned schedule and ensure the respect of the deadlines;
  • Ensure the proper use of Personal Protection Equipment.
Objective 3: Relay ACF activities and objectives to the communities and partners

The WASH Technician is responsible for:

  • Develop contacts and explain the activities and the objectives of the programs to community, and schools’ staff;
  • Community sensitization / mobilization to ensure the smooth implementation of project;
  • Conduct technical assessment for rehabilitation work and prepare bill of quantity;
  • Monitoring of contractor work in field and ensure that the work is done according to agreed specification / standard;
  • Provide inputs for projects reporting;
  • Represent ACF in community and stakeholder;
  • Respect ACF charter;
  • Involve and inform the communities in the implementation of the program;
  • Inform the hierarchy about the progress or limits of the work;
  • Work in collaboration with the stakeholders.







Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Recruitment Criteria:

Qualification/Degree:

B.s Degree in civil engineering or equivalent and professional experience in construction/rehabilitation work.

Professional Experience

2 years of work experience in a relevant field with NGOs.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge in water, sanitation  and/or a serious professional experience in building rehabilitation and/or equivalent professional experience

General Skills
Managerial Skills (if applicable)

Strong commitment to the humanitarian crises

Good physical condition

Dynamism –Rigour

 

Language Skills

Spoken proficiency in Arabic is essential

Spoken and written English is a plus

Other Requirements

Capacity to manage priorities

Ability to analyze and synthesize

Good organizational skills

Diplomacy

Flexibility

Very good Knowledge in Microsoft software: Word and Excel
