Description
Background: 

Mission East, founded in Denmark in 1991, is an international humanitarian and development organization undertaking disaster relief and development programmes in Asia. In response to the recent IDP crisis, Mission East re-established its presence in Iraq in September 2014 in order to provide emergency assistance for displaced people. Our current programme in Iraq focuses on psychosocial support, shelter, WASH, and livelihood components in Ninawa and Kirkuk Governorates.

Mission East condemns all forms of child abuse and child exploitation, takes a zero-tolerance approach to all abuse and exploitation against children and seeks to ensure children are not exposed to the risk of maltreatment by its representatives.

Job Purpose:
  • To ensure quality and timely implementation of protection components of Mission East Iraq’s multi-sectoral programming.
  • To build capacity of Mission East and partner organisation staff in psychosocial support and protection activities.
  • To contribute to Mission East overall programme development (strategy, needs assessments, proposals) and implementation (technical advice, representation, monitoring and reporting) as related to protection.
Job Responsibility
  • A. Management of protection component of multi-sector programmes.
  • Ensure psychosocial support and protection activities are planned and implemented in keeping with required quality standards and resource allocations
  • Contribute protection-related input to overall programme development and strategy.
  • • Oversee preparation and implementation of protection activities and ensure that they meet appropriate standards (CHS, SPHERE Standard Protection Principles, Inter-Agency Minimum Standards for Gender Based Violence, CPMS [child protection minimum standards], standards for child friendly spaces and other applicable national and international standards).
  • • In close collaboration with the Field based protection staff and the partner NGO staff, establish support and strengthen i) Community Centres (including child- and youth- targeted activities) and ii) Family Protection Units (FPUs) with relevant referral mechanisms in collaboration with other actors, as core components of Mission East’s Protection Programme
  • Ensure that protection activities are carried out in line with donor commitments, in line with agreed work plans and budgets, in order to achieve planned targets

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications required

Required:

  • Master’s in social sciences or relevant discipline
  • Proven experience in protection, child protection and gender-based violence programming of at least 5 years
  • Experience to assess, design and deliver trainings for ME staff and partners on protection particularly
  • Previous experience in Project Proposal and Report Writing

 

Experience required.

Desired: 

  • Experience working with UN agencies/ clusters and IHPF funding
  • Stress management skills: ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to set high standards for quality of work and quick adaptability and flexibility in stressful environment

 

Necessary Competencies

 

Technical Skills.

Required:

  • Strong English language skills and ability to write in English professionally.
  • Proven experience in managing budget and grants management
  • Excellent expertise in data management and reporting
  • Highly organized, attention to detail and strong quantitative and qualitative
  • Computer skills particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Firm belief in quality, integrity, teamwork, gender equality, participatory approach and Sustainability.

Desired:

Utilizing programming and statistical to compile data and information for various systems, and knowledge of basic Participatory, Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation concepts and research tools.

Language proficiency:

Proficiency in (both verbal and written) English, Kurdish and Arabic is essential.
