Action Against Hunger intervenes in four main areas: Nutrition, Mental Health & Care Practices; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Food Security and Livelihoods; Advocacy and Raising Awareness.

 

Action Against Hunger is looking for a Livelihood Agriculture Technician Based in its office in Basra.

 

Work place: Basra with frequent visits to ACF areas of interventions.

 

Type of contract: Initially 5 months Fixed-Term contract with the possibility of extension.

 

Working Hours: Full Time Contract of minimum 40 hours per week up to a maximum of 48 hours per week

 

Monthly Basic Salary:  Action Against Hunger provide competitive salary according to ACF salary grid.

 

Benefits: Monthly Transport Allowance, Medical Insurance and + End of Year Benefit.

 

Purpose of the position: Contribute to implementation of Food Security and Livelihoods activities in districts of Basra governorate.

 

 

Specific Objectives:

Assignment  1: Improve agricultural productivity by promoting adoption of more climate responsive technologies in resources management

-          Provision and installation of solar water pumps, and conduct training to supported farmers on solar pump maintenance and care practices.

-          Support in preparing MOU with Basra barns and orchards to collect animal and plant wastes

-          Support in Identifying priority areas for communal composting units in coordination with Basra  farmers associations (FAs)

-          Support in distributing compost products to farmers within the catchment area

-          Lead a training with FAs followed by on-site coaching and supervision to capacitate FAs to lead independent extension services for smallholder farmers.

 

Assignment 2: Reduce social cohesion pressures between pastoralists and farmers arising from an expanding agriculture sector

-          Provision and installation of hydroponic green fodder production units

-          Provision of cash-for-veterinary services for supported buffalo herders.

-          Conduct a joint training on agro-ecology and organic farming practices for both farmers and pastoralists

 

 

Assignment 3: cash transfer programming including livelihoods, and business grants.

-          Selection, identification, verification and registration of project beneficiaries

-          Follow-up and monitor livelihood activities

-          Identification of cash distributions points and monitor and follow up cash distribution

 

Assignment 4: Reporting and means of verification

-          Prepare monthly report of the activities in the field

-          Support the PM in the collection and organization all the required means of verification

-          Report any incident or relevant occurrence to the supervisor

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Recruitment Criteria:

Qualification/Degree:

University Bachelor degree in Agriculture or related field preferred.

Professional Experience

2 years of work experience in a Food security and livelihood or relevant field.

General Skills

 

Strong knowledge of the intervention area

Good computer knowledge

Strong agriculture and livestock knowledge

Good knowledge and understanding of humanitarian crises issues

Experience on cash transfer programming including unconditional cash grants, agriculture and livelihood, business grants etc.

Understanding small business, business planning and business management.
